About Us

Our Mission Statement

Downs On The Farm has three main purposes: we hope to bless and enrich the lives of special needs kids and adults that reach out to us, make homes for as many neglected, unwanted animals possible and give them the care they need, as well as educate others of the importance of responsible agriculture and natural growing techniques.

Our Story

Shawna Hodges, the director and founder of DOTF, is married to David Hodges, who ran with her dream of starting a non-profit and supports her by volunteering so much of his time towards the cause. Shawna and David are the parents of two amazing boys, Mitchell and Grady, who keep them on their toes!

20936_1362383861237_7340949_nIn 2008, their family of three was blessed with Grady who was born with down syndrome. At first came some shock and worry about the future to come, but it did not take long to realize what a blessing

Grady was to their family. He is their daily inspiration and knowing the positive impact that Animal Assisted Activities have, along with other farm filled activities, they wanted to share it with those who have similar gifts.

Unfortunately most places charge quite a bit for Animal Assisted Activities, but they did not want money to be an obstacle for kids to be able to receive these benefits. So that is why they started Downs On The Farm, to give those with special needs or disabilities an affordable place to come! Their family believes that they are bringing the best of both worlds to those in our society that need to be mutually accepted. By having a birthday party at the farm, visiting the petting zoo, purchasing some of their natural produce, or donating, you can help to keep the farm up and running!
